I've got another new one for you today. This one is called Andy's Stamp of Approval. It's a mixed media assemblange mounted in a wood box.

As promised, Kenneth Treacy has a new exhibit of recent paintings. I hope you enjoy them. Get them while they're hot. One thing we've learned about Kenneth's work is that is wont be available forever.

Above is an assemblage of mine cleverly titled, Rent. I've got several more to post, but I'm going to stop dominating the updates as San Francisco painter Kenneth Treacy has sent a number of new painting which need to be posted. I have to check with Kenneth, but I believe it may be last call for the paintings currently on exhibit. So, if you see one you like, get it now before it's off-line.

I've got another new assemblage from what is beginning to feel like the advent of the Philadelphia series. It's a more durable series of pieces (not to detract from the stoneware I just finished) inspired to some degree by a certain reverence for the thick skin required of yourself and your possessions when you pick up and move to a new city..

Also, I'd like to send thanks to our friends over at Apartment Therapy for directing their readers our way with this post. It was nice to see that they included one of my ceramic boxes in their montage for work from the site.

Above: Two Weeks/Quality Product by Michael Leahy. Note: What may appear as an extreme glare on the image above is actually where the paper has been sanded down to produce the patina specific to the subject of the piece.

Here's one more from photographer John Storjohann.

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and we've got a lot of great gifts. I could recommend a nice photograph or assemblage or even the album shown above, Anita Fix's Separation of the Sexes. Anita Fix is the latest addition to the grainbag musical roster brought to you by Alan Lewandowski of the Working Poor.

I missed this obituary for artist James Church in last weeks Pittsburgh City Paper..

Above: Loaded.

I've been working on a new series of assemblage and collage on wood. Since I no longer have access to a ceramic studio now that I'm in Philly, I've been forced to re-evaluate my studio and change things up a bit. I like the way these have been going. So, you know I'll be posting more of them soon.

On our last trip to the beach we all got a chance to cut our teeth on a stunt training kite, the larger versions of which are used for kite surfing. When the wind is strong, even the miniature training kites will pull you off your feet if you aren't dug in. Holding your ground in those winds seemed to be the hardest part. I know it was for me and my noodle legs. We also took it out on a day with light wind, which was a good lesson in how to create energy by maneuvering the kite. I'm hoping the next time we get down there the resident experts (K's sister and brother-in-law who are working up to kite surfing) will have graduated the larger kite. I think I would like to kite surf, but I also think I'd like to kite board. Kite boarding involves these large, all terrain skate board like vehicles with foot straps. Sounds like a good way to break another collarbone. They also make kite buggys, but who's got the money for all that? Not me, I can assure you. Y'all need to buy some more art. Apartment Therapy is running an interesting contest this week where readers submit photos of the artwork in their homes. If you have bought work through grainbag, submit a photo of it. You can win more art!

I finally got around to photographing the assemblage piece above. It's called A History of Poison. I hope you like it.
